I tried this one time. I had found two indian head pennies next to an old cellar foundation, and thought I would clean them up a bit. I may have left it in too long. It came out all pitted. I guess you have to keep an eye on it, and don't over cook it. I seem to have the same problem when I cook steaks on the gas grill.

you probably did it right simonds. the electrolysis will remove the corrosion. if the corrosion goes into the coin, it will be removed and will leave pitting. thats why its best to only cook em when its necissary.

:'( i had to stop with my set up on cleaning the copper coin or what every it was. i was cooking it slow. one more letter came up with some stars so that made two o and a, n . i used a stainless still spoon. i closed my door because when I'm on line i do not want to hear my kids playing there game cube. for the last two mornings i woke up coughing, this morning was worse my wife thought i was dieing ::). then i remember that on one of these post some one said not to use stainless still because when it gets hot it makes vapor,s that are bad to inhale. i thought it was smoking to much. I'm waiting for for it to get a bit warm,er were i can open the window. now I'm tempted to try to clean it with some thing real strong. :)

Sodium carbonate (soda ash) guys, not baking soda. The galvanic foil method is good not great, used mainly by the conservator at ECU. The method is at least 100 years old. Try soaking you bronze coins in sesqui instead of electrolysis. Remember not to go higher than 1/2 amp, use your volt meter, convert, best to purchase a few reducers at RShack for 10 cents a pop. Do not use polish or oils.
