He only went & did it again ::) He found the Sceat that looks to be a Very Rare Series M, Type 45, although I can't find a match just yet, just as we were starting to head back to the car! We didn't realise until we got home & starting cleaning up, that one of the Scrappies I found was a copper-core to a Sceat :laughing7: :headbang: So that made it 2 all this year (4 in a year, but 3 in a weekend!)

38 Roman Coins
Cut Hammered of Henry III (Willem of London)

Before the 3.5 hours we had on this field, I had scouted on my own a field near my house (1.5 hours). Nothing much, other than the finds in picture 1 - 17th C Buckle, 1776 Zelandia Duit, referred to as a New York Penny;

To top it off we have broken our best years total Roman Coin (Bronze) count, which is currently at 1221 :icon_thumright: (previous record 1193)

Crazy weekend :headbang:

Its the Sceats that matter in this post  I'm thinking one at least is going to be more than rare

Re: On the way back to the car...

Sorry...was so fast looking at the pics and didn't read everything.... ::) You are right. The sceats are much better than the romans. Sometimes i did not realize the rarity of these finds. You say copper core. Were these sceats plated?

Re: On the way back to the car...

You need to get that Cortes back :laughing9:

Well done both :icon_thumleft:

I've heard/found debased sceat's, I'm not aware of them being plated, but it's not my strongest area of study, so I await an answer from an expert.

Re: On the way back to the car...

I think from now on you need to leave all but the md in the car and send Cru dad back for the items one at a time ! :hello2: Congrats!

Re: On the way back to the car...

Way to go, Cru and Cru-Dad! When the two of you finish digging up Great Britain, I wonder which nation or entire continent you will tackle next?!

Thanks to Joeyfresh for the wikipedia link which enlightened me somewhat on the sceat finds.

When we have clean up here, we have our eye on China :laughing7:

Re: On the way back to the car...UPDATE - 1st One Recorded!

UPDATE:

Cru'dad's Sceat is the first recorded example of Metcalf's variety C of Series M. :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:
I've only had 1 coin (Henry I) recorded as the only 1. So we both have historic coins to our name. Good team work :coffee2:

I had a strong feeling it was up there in single figures, but this result is great :icon_thumright:

Re: On the way back to the car...UPDATE - 1st One Recorded!

Well done your Dad, I think you should give this game up Cru and leave it to your Dad...you can take the pics
