Wow, you have actually found a legend. Now all you have to do is get legal permission! That would be the find of the decade. Go for it!!!

Yes, I just have to figure out how to get to it. I suppose the property owners would think I would be crazy with the proposition.

"Um, I figured out where there is a treasure on your property. Can I go find it?"

Here is another set of pictures worth looking at.

Follow the compass stone.

This is the entrance to the site identified in KVMs "Treasure of the Valley of Secrets" Page 45.

Here is what this site looks like from above. Compliments of google satellite view.

I am standing on the right side of the chasm and the entrance is on the left side.

Any thoughts? I would love to hear some feedback on these specific photos.

OK now I'm a little confused.

Follow the compass stone? It looks natural to me, so are you saying they used a natural but unusual stone formation to point the way or they altered the stone in some way?

I have some ideas....

Hi AV8Joker,

I would love to hear the ideas. I did get your message and sent you a response.

Patrick

I believe people used markers and signs to navigate but how do you know the things you find are these markers? There are thousands of natural rocks and formations that look like something. When you pick up an Indian artifact rock you can tell it has been worked by man. How do you know these are treasure markers and not just some pioneer trail markers?

Hi Lookindown,

Refer to the books identified on the first page of the thread. You do need to understand Spanish trail and treasure signs to navigate the trails.

Hi Patrick, first I'd like to thank you for sharing your story. IMHO, I don't know the exact situation regarding the property or owners, however, I would strongly consider teaming up with someone you trust with your life and explore the site in the early morning hours or late at night if possible. I am all for getting in touch with the owners and sharing any profits but before I went that far, I'd check the site out to verify that it is in fact what you think it is. That is if it's even possible to get near it without being noticed. Just my 2 cents, again I don't know all the details, but the explorer inside me says check it out first.....if possible.

Good Luck, and please keep us posted!!

Hi Strateloss,

You are welcome. And, thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately, I do not have someone trusted enough to go check out this site. Not to mention, it would be really hard to pull that off as a several hour hike is needed to get to this location. Keep in mind that there are other treasure cache sites with this treasure. There are some easier sites to access.

I am open to suggestions.

Thanks again.

Do you have a metal detector, Patrick? I would think it would be worth it to look around that compass stone and on the trail. If there were 100 - 200 people there, someone HAD to have dropped a coin or two. If they worked that stone, you will probably find some Spanish tool or artifact that will truly confirm your site. Then you would know if the site is the real deal without having to trespass.

Hi Sam,

Great minds think alike. I am going back the weekend after labor day to check this specific site further. (Got a new pair of all terrain tires for my 4 wheel drive yesterday.) I have been to this stone five or six times but never took a detector. I have a few detectors. I will post some of my metal detecting finds later. I just don't want to dominate the forums.

Patrick

Go for it! I can't wait to see what you find! Keep on posting, I love reading them.

Good luck my friend!

Hi Sam,

I took your advice and posted a couple of pictures on my best find with a metal detector. It is in this thread and titled "best day metal detecting".

I probably posted it in the wrong thread since it was a find from 1999. It got me a small article in Lost Treasure magazine. (Jan 99 issue, page 43.)

Patrick

FYI,

I am going out this Friday to further research the site.

Patrick
