I been exploring the park next door to me with alot of success. I have pulled 25 IHP's and a serious wad of silver out of this park in the last mont. Today I decided to go back to the beach area where I got 5 nice silver dimes last night in a few hours, when I arrived two fellow T-netters were there and all ready pounding the beach pretty hard. After introducing myself and enjoying some talk I decided to leave them be and hit a different area just down from them. I dug a few deep wheat signals when then I get a deep signal that was ringing the right kinda sound I like. After cutting the plug and dig a large amount of sand back I get a good tone from my Garrett pinpointer screaming at me. I keep digging with the hole getting deeper and deeper, now I am thinking that I Am no longer gonna find a coin and this has got to be a piece of junk. Finally a large object appears in the hole, I reach in and pull out this huge heavy piece of what ever????? I flip it over and instantly see US on it!!! I know from seeing the posts by the Relic hunters here this is something very special! I yell at the two fellows I had met earlier and they come over to see what the fuss is about. One offers a jug of water to wash it off and now we see the two knobs and the big hook!!!!!! WOW!!!! We give high fives and just smile!!!!! Who would have ever thought to find a buckle of this caliber in northern most Wisconsin! So all you relic guys got info on this buckle I sure would like to know as much as possible and even if has a dollar value I would like to know that also. Thanks for looking:D

That is an incredible find for anyone hunting civil war sites let alone upper Wisconsin!! Okay as for the information this is your standard regulation US Belt Plate, the time frame of this could be anywhere from pre-civil war to during the civil war time period based upon maker, size, and etc. As for cost based upon the condition of the buckle my guess would be 250 dollars. Great find and congrats. HH- pitdiggers

Incredible find Jack Im coming up there today maybe I'll run into ya!! Congrats on another great find

that is one nice looking buckle, I'd be going back to look for more

Nice discovery!

Stands to reason that soldiers probably wore them home after their part in the fracas.

That is definitely an 1862 or earlier buckle based on the "puppy feet" hooks ( oval shaped)...after 1862 they were produced with "arrow shaped" hooks. This is not a cartridge box plate but a beautiful pre-1862 Union Buckle ,,,congrats on a nice find!! I have found several of both kinds in my days and there is nothing sweeter than digging up a CW buckle.

Nice Buckle, that's what makes this a great hobby, you never know what you'll dig up, congrats !

That is a really nice U.S. belt plate. I like the early "puppy paw" stud attachments on the back.

That is an interesting isolated find. You did not find any evidence of an old homestead or any more militaria in the area?

Plehbah This was found at a old park near the beach area, I believe this spot was used for camping and picnicing back in the day. I have found evidence of that type of use there

Thanks alot for the kind words from everyone, I was really surprised and am still pinching myself

That is a Perfect condition dug U.S. plate. Those of us that dig them in the plowed fields could never hope for a find in such beautiful shape. When the plows aren't slicing and dicing them, the fertilizer is destroying them.

Well done!

Relics are where it's at, my friend.

That is a stonking beauty! It gets my vote for banner just for the condition alone!

That is awesome Jack! I would like to nab one of those eventually. Watch for Michigannes post tonight or tomorrow, she nailed a couple really good keepers today on our hunt. YOU moved away so it was just us 3 today. Nice job on that buckle!
