Oldest wheat penny contest.

I found four ihp's and V nickle under the same old maple tree early this year, and tho I have a bandido, I found these wIth my Makro racer 2...alas.

Congratualtions on the great finds with your Racer 2. I'd have an old fashioned spasms fit if that had of been me.

Ammoman continues to romp through the competition. 1891 indian head penny.
He can be beat, but it will have to be one tough ombre.

Ammoman remains our leader. He beats off another threat.
Congratulations!

GAME ON....

It was great finding those ihp's, the nickle, was 1886 as well, no silver left on it. I like to do deep research and it usually pays off. Usually..but I have been skunked on relics or historical, significant finds, have never failed on pull tabs and /or bottle caps. Hopefully, someone will find a pre CW penny, pre CW coins are on my bucket list. I search around the oldest, usually the largest trees, on the oldest properties I can find, some have no housees anymore, just the trees.

Went to the river this morning to hunt. I checked the shoreline and even went into river up to about a foot. Had to be careful as the Mojave control box is not waterproof. My total finds were 3 quarters, 3 dimes, 1 nickel and 12 pennies. They were all clad. Now here is the unbelievably weird part. Of the 12 pennies three are wheaties. It even gets weirder. All three of the wheaties are 1944. Two are 1944s and one 1944. They were not found in a spill. In my year of detecting I have found a total of 3 wheaties. Today I found 3 in 3 hours and they are all 1944. What are the odds of that happening. Gotta love this hobby.

Gary, this is really crazy, something must be up.

I too went on a 2 hour hunt this morning and found 13 pennies and 2 dimes. Here's the weird part: 3 of mine were wheaties. 42-52-57. I'm in my 8th month of this hobby, total wheats now at 8. Oldest 1919.

Hey, I think we are on the right track.

Vern, what will be counted? Large cents too? Getting my tejon soon and want to play.

I am of the opinion that we should include all USA 1 cent coins.
If anyone disagrees, please say so. This is a good question.

For encouragement, it would be nice to read about old pennies dug, even if newer than 1891.

WOW i didn't think my penny would last more than an hour or two. I have some great sites lined up and hope to beat the 1891 before the end of the year.

I'm surprised too, Ammoman.

Ammoman still the leader: 1981 ihp

Dang right there Loco. Once in awhile it's just pure fun to take a break from finding silver and gold.

Ammoman still our leader:
1881 ihp

Game on.

Is he in the lead due to the rarity of this coin? Lol

I got that...ha!

Here it gets into the 90's before noon and with the humidity soaring we getting into a triple digit heat index most days.
Lack of rain made everything so hard to dig and even using my Sampson I would destroy every piece of ground I would dig in.
The woods are better but you know, insects...plus there was a stone in my shoe and the sun was in my eyes.
Right now my skill set is better put to use complaining than actual hunting but once all of these problems go away I will take out my Mojave and kick some butts around here in this contest.
Someday...

Whoooa. ......Ammoman shaking in his sandals. Game on fellas.
