Here is another token I am not sure of. If you look close you will see he has a large nose and pointed chin. I have sent a picture of the coin to a dealer to see if it is a new never seen Blacksmith token. The back of the coin is blank unless it is worn out. The blacksmith tokens were made to look like a wore out British coppers, they would throw the tokens in the fire to blacken them to hide all the imperfections of a bad stamping. It could be just an old worn copper but who knows? I think I was using my whittes 5900 at the time, it came from an old tavern site. HH

You sure this isn't just an American Jefferson Nickel? Looks like it was in water for a few years.

My oldest coin was found a few weeks ago in New Orleans. I am working in the area and had the chance to hit an area there with my etrac. The target came up on the etrac with a pretty good tone and id. I dug the plug and ended up with a 1797 2 reale. I still cant believe it came from where it came from but I am glad I didnt miss it. TMAN...

All my oldest coins were dug in England on a trip I made in 1999. Nothing in the USA I've dug can come anywhere near as old!

This was a once in a lifetime trip for me to metal detect in England. I went over there with about 40 other americans and we all metal detected from 7 to 10 days straight in the plowed farm fields in East Anglia right near the North Sea. There are several travel groups here in the states that will provide trips over to England just for the purpose of metal detecting. I went with Jimmy Sierra Tours back in 1999. I highly recommend doing this at least once. It will set you back about 3K, but it is well woth it. I'd love to do it again....!

But the oldest coin you have is a Celtic-obolus AR, about 4500 years old. I have it now at home, I will add photos later.

Well, could be, I suppose, but it is inconsistent with generally accepted earliest dates of less than 2900 years ago. Of course, we're all open to new information. Thank you for sharing this.
