My buddy was kind enough to invite me out to his permission at an old colonial plantation today. Managed to dig up this 1822 capped bust. I was pretty excited about it. 33644766-1BEE-4AEC-8EE0-CB89802313A6.jpeg2D456314-751A-4D47-939F-C664C26773CC.jpeg

A big congrats on a ultra rare find !

If you take it to your local coin shop they might be able to clean it by dipping it "Coin-Solv".

I'm not saying what you should do but ...
I've had very good luck cleaning Silver coins in similar condition by using an Electrolysis Bath.
Safe to use - simple to build from things laying around your house - Electrolysis dissolves the crud without hurting the coin.
But you must be careful - after the crud is gone it will go after the metal.
I just check whatever I have in the bath every 5 minutes or so to make sure I'm not "over cleaning".

Good Luck !

Congrats on a great coin...my coin shop dealer has tripled the value on some of my coins by the way he carefully cleans them...they look like they come right out of Great Grandma's safety deposit box..

What an awesome coin, still on my bucket list. She's a beauty no matter the surface, congrats!

I’m sure he was a little disappointed but he didn’t show it much. The place was built in 1724 and I don’t think it’s been hit with a detector before based on finding some cool stuff that isn’t that deep. There’s gotta be more coins around there.

Even if it does have that staining, capped bust quarters are something that certainly do not get found every day! That is a really, really nice find!
