Found this and not 100% sure what this is or how it would have looked if in a car, what kind of car? and who the heck it ended up here of all places, as this old brick road was used in the 1920's and then just a small hidden section along a creek.

Plenty of identifying codes and numbers, but I can't find much info anywhere. Asking the experts here 8-)

As you can see, the metal is just cracking off like hot butter, no idea how to preserve what is left?

Also, the clock part went inside the other part and that part seems to have gone into a dashboard or something as the clock itself could be pulled out to change clock etc.

Thanks for any info!

Late 60’s Volkswagen dash clock, may even work in the Karmann Ghia’s. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1601161908.652039.jpg

Thank you for your response and info. However, I notice some differences. Your pic has little lines under the numbers unlike mine, also not sure what mine says, but more than just "VDO" on bottom of clock. The area where found would be very odd for anything post 1930's there. Is my pic a date code 27/9/2? I don't know how they did it in Germany back then, but the 20's would match the roads usage.

VDO is the company who made it. The fact that it is 12V means it cannot be older than 1967 when VW first went to 12V electrical systems. There also was no company called Volkswagen making cars before WW2 so it cannot be as old as the 1920s.

Your clock is a late 60’s type 3 VW clock and newer then the image of the clock I posted. Gunsil is right about it being no older then 1967. The clock I posted a photo if is a type 2 but still mid to late 60’s. The VDO on your type 3 says “VDO-KIENZLE”. Your type 3 can be no older then 1967 and most likely dated 1968. And the "missing" white lines under the numbers appear to be printed / painted on an entirely separate piece (not shown in the OP's original photos).

The outer piece with the painted white lines is either aluminum or sheet metal I don’t recall which (it’s been a while since I’ve had one of these clocks apart) so it corroded away. The center part with the numbers is plastic so the plastic protected the numbers from the environment it was in.

Thank you everyone for the info! Ugh, I thought at least 1920's, but kinda glad it's not based on the condition. Still cool relic. Thanks for all the info shared here by everyone!
