I got to detect a few hours today and it turned out to be a good day!! I searched an old homesite and found an old snuff tin or holder which I rank up with some of my best finds.I worked my way to where the old spring had to have been. The rocks for the most part were still in place in a kind of circular pattern and water still flows from the groung very near them. I got a weak hit like a deep dime, but the detecter showed it was only four inches deep.I dug and to my suprise it was a coin, but I cant' tell what it is.It is copper with a face or bust on one side, and some writing or markings on the back. It is very small....about three eighths to a half inch across.Maybe someone can tell me more about what this is.I will try to get some decent pics put up!! The rest of the day turned up a chunk of melted copper and some old plows.I cant wait to get back tomorrow!!Good luck to all and H.H. Sorry about the quality of the pics, but I couldnt get the camera and light to cooperate!!

Mike,

You gotta take a few more pics of that coin! Try and see if you can get a few that are clearer and focused a bit closer. Post them when you get a chance. I'd love to help research it for ya. Just need some better images of it.

Great finds! That tin is also very nice! Don't think it's nothin' ! It's very cool.

Hey Lonewolfe, great work on finding that one on eBay, it's exact!

Hey Lonewolfe.....you didi good!! That's it!It's in better shape than mine, but you can bet I wouldnt ever...ever sell it.I still have everything I have ever dug...except the trash. That explains why I couldnt find anything when I thought it was a snuff tin.(befoer I opened it) I didnt get to hunt any after all yesterday....ended up having to go to the hospital and have 1.5liters of blood taken.I thought for awhile I was going to the big detecting fild in the sky...lol My hemicrit was up to 55(way too high)Found out that I get to go back on alpha interferon in two weeks!!That will put a damper on the ole detecting!! All you guys...and girls are tops when it comes to helping find info on things!!!
Now as far as the coin...I will try to get some better and closer pics later today. Thanks for the info on the site you found rvbetter. I think I have won the bet with my cousin....either a steak dinner on him or a trip to detect at a site where there have been some civil war artifacts found.I will choose the latter assuming that it is in fact real!! I would just like to know the story behind it and what its doing here. Well I gotta go feed our growing flock and I'm off to detect for sure today!! Thanks again....and I will keep you posted of what turns up todak...and hopefully a couple better pics of the coin!! Happy hunting!!!!!!!!

Here is a couple of what should be better pics of the coin!!
