Managed to get out a couple days ago on a site that I hit with BBoy back in January when he was visiting. He gave me a good skunkin on this site, digging his first Capped Bust. Well I've been itching to get back over there and hunt the place. As soon as I started swinging ,I realized what it was about the site that p'd me off...dang ole electric fence making my detector go cuckoo for cocoa puffs. I kept swinging, trying to swing before each pulse and it just about drove me crazy. :BangHead:.
I started finding some buttons and lead balls. Later on I noticed what looked like a colonial clay pipe bowl on the surface, I picked it up and was surprised to see it was a pipe bowl. First one for me .
Later on I dug what I believe to be a piece to a shoe buckle, upper right, top in group shot. A 4 hole converted button, matching pair of floral flat buttons, 2 hole saddle piece.
The last pic is a button that looks old to me, the design on the face and the shank looks different from any other flat button I have dug. It was so crusty I hit it with a soft brass brush and then the pattern came out. Cool button, I like it.

You be good,

HB

Very Cool HB!! Those buttons are first rate. I see you found one of the oval brass pieces again. We thought about you the other day when we argued about who was buying lunch-LOL. I hope you made it throgh the rough weather in E-town OK. HH, Quindy.

When I run solo I have to buy my own lunch ;D.
Rough weather went just to the south of me, we had some strong winds and heavy down pours, but it wasn't too bad.

E-Town caught a Twister today...hope y'alls OK over there...didn't get over our way.
Nice buttons

with all the interferrance....nice hunt v

Looks like some earlier targets there HB. Seems like you enjoyed yourself thoroughly!

HB,
Awesome variety of buttons. :icon_thumleft: That homemade 4 hole button is way cool. Great old finds buddy. :hello2:
Congrats,
Dug

love those buttons, very nice find on the key and the pipe bowl. yrs in the ground are tough on keys like that, good find.

Great finds. That key is cool.

That looks like a good spot.

There has to be at least one more coin left.

Good luck finding it.

I hate those fences, a freq change might help.

HB, you squeezed more keepers from that field than we found Combined the first hunt! Those matching floral buttons are first rate--and I miss digging those re-purposed dandy buttons that seemed to show up in Kentucky from time to time (re-punched and sewed back on a garment). Those really tell the story of the great Western Frontier back then. The pipe bowl is great! I'm happy you got one. I have only found 3 in 20 years, and one of those was found here in Louisiana (complete pipe bowl). The strange piece with the hole in it is bizarre. Homemade key? :dontknow: I am hoping that there is another 1850s Eagle in there for you. That would be sweet.

Best Wishes,

Buck

I like the key the best, altough the button's are right there too.Nice dig's HB :icon_thumright:

Thanks Dug, I was really hoping for a pattern on that Dandy button with the 4 holes. Didn't know it had been modified till I got home and gave it a cleaning.

I'm sure there's a coin left, I just need to make sure I don't leave them there for you :laughing9:.
An 1865 seated dime was also found here by someone cutting tobacco, just laying on the surface.
I'm going to figure out where the electric fence box is and turn it off on the next hunt, it really was annoying.

Yeh, I'm really wanting to find one of those Eagle buttons, or two or three.
What do you think that key went to?

That is a fine pile of buttons
Very nice handmade key, love stuff like that.
Maybe a piece of gun furniture above the key? :icon_scratch:
Great pix and Finds! Congrats & HH
