Do these folks look like Mexicans? Also, if you notice they are all holding flowers. Could this be a funeral? I count at least 100 people in this photo, mostly kids. Any thoughts on this photo?

Okay we know that...

4- The man that owned it "may" have been of Turkish (or even Armenian) descent.

I can say with a lot of confidence that the Jack Meharian you bought it from is Armenian and is the same person as the boy in the photo I posted above.

Agree. I can't post all the bits of info I've looked at to draw my conclusion, but here is the Reader's Digest version:

We know from Bramblefind's news clip that Jack's mother was Mrs. Berch Meharian. I believe her name was Rose (Kakligian) Meharian.

Rose's sister was Lucille (Kakligian) Avdoian. According to Lucille's obit, the Kakligian family escaped the Armenian genocide.

So... It is reasonable to assume that Kakligian family (Jack's grandparents) members may in the photo.

At the very least, I'm convinced the people in the pic are Armenian.

Thanks for pointing that out. I've been working 11 and 12 hours days. I just got home, left at 6 am this morning so my head isn't all here. I didn't even realize that pic showed the guy as a kid. Thanks for posting that.

Thank you for the links. I've got a lot of research to do. Hopefully I'll find some time this weekend.

Kind of a grim looking place for a wedding. Since nobody is smiling, I would think it much more likely to be a funeral or some other ceremony.

Just tidying up some blasts from the past (including some very ancient ones), largely for the benefit of anyone searching the site for information.

I don’t think there’s any particular occasion for the photograph. It’s just a documentary picture of the pupils and staff of an Armenian school. Here’s the same photograph from the ‘Dick Maloian Collection’, where it’s captioned “Keghi, 1912. The pupils and faculty of an Armenian school”:

Armenian School.jpg

https://www.armenianinstitute.org.uk/events/therighteousamongourneighbours

So it was taken before the arrests, deportations and massacres of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire during WWI, generally recognised by 34 countries as the ‘Armenian Genocide’, but still disputed by Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan as being a genocidal campaign.
