A woman called me, two years ago, and asked me if I would come over to her, deceased, Mother's home to locate the property stakes as she was selling the house for the estate. I knew that the house sat in a subdivision of, only, four homes that were built in, what used to be, a very old park with a pavillion. She stated that the Pavillion sat in her Mother's yard and the yard of the neighbor's home. I said "yes" and asked if I could walk around with my metal detector. She said "sure" and it didn't take me long to get there. I located stakes and proceeded to scan the property with my detector. In two days, I dug up 14 INDIAN HEAD CENTS, ranging from 1864 to 1907, 2 TWO CENT PIECES, 1865 & 1868, one 1901 BARBER QUARTER, one1875 SEATED LIBERTY QUARTER, five SEATED LIBERTY DIMES, ranging from 1876 to 1878, and eighteen WHEAT CENTS, ranging from 1910 to 1946. By the way, in ONE HOLE, I dug out the TWO CENT PIECES(back to back), and three of the Indian Head cents. I thought that I was in Metal Detecting Heaven. The house got sold and I haven't ventured back, yet.

:o......That's all I can say......Unbelievable!!!!

Swanie, what did you use to clean the coins? They all turned out great!!!

Hey eathabs,
I, first, washed all of the coins real well. The Indian Heads came out of the clay timber soil in pretty good condition so I put them in a jar of olive oil for a few days. I just wiped them off and you see how they turned out. When I dig IH cents from a farm field, many are pretty corroded due to the chemicals used in the fields but these were in house yards where an old park was. Field coins don't clean up as well. The silver coins came out of the ground pretty nice. Just had to wash them.

Swanie...Congrats on some great finds and on a great spot....Get back there asap...regardless if someone else hit it as well. I was fortunate enough to find a spot like that this summer, a private yard that yielded over 40 IH's, 6 LC's and some old silver....I hit the place around 9 times...each time produced more coins...hit it again and again using grids and going over the same area from different directions...a virgin site like that will produce for you well, keep at it and if there is a frost this winter there, hit it as soon as the ground thaws to see what the frost pushed up. Tell the new owners you hunted it previously and you were the one who located the propery stakes and ask them if they would mind if you tried around the yard again....Good luck and look forward to many more posts from that area....HH!!!

Good gravy & biscuits! :o

I get excited when I just find a average penny . . I suspect if I came across even just one of your finds I would be in the hospital for a very lengthy time!!! :o

Incredibly finds! Congrats, congrats, congrats!!!
