Hello. My wifes Grandfather passed away recently, he was a WWII vet and has a ton of stuff. This object that he had has us stumped. It takes 2 size D batteries and the two tubes on it have a clear plastic in them. So when it is turned on, the light travels through the tubes like fiber optics. It looks like it clamps on to something to light up two parts for vision purposes at night; but what does it attatch to?
Any ideas? Feel free to email us:[email protected].

Sorry for the fuzzy pictures, the camera was a Christmas present which was replaced after taking the pics, hehe.

I wanted to bring this back because I can't find anything on it right now. I do know it's a device for night illumination of some kind of instrument during Blackout Conditions. It dose look like it could attached be attached to a mortar.

What does it say exactly. Light, Instrument ??????.

if you think its a light instrument, most likely its a bore scope, they are used to inspect the bore or gun barrel of cannons and artillery and tanks.as far as night vision scopes go.the only one made in 1940 was the snooper sniper scope made for a M-1 rifle.i have one that worked at one time till the very rare rca tube and vibrator failed.it has a large IR spotlight with a solid gold reflector for it.ill dig it out an get some pics of it.
