I tried cropping these before posting - but the cropping doesn't seem to be "taking". Anyone who can help point me in right direction would be helpful -

Found an old metal button in an area of NJ that was known to have a lot of Dutch after they left New York/New Amsterdam. This button was down about 8 inches in hard rocky soil - there's a bit of crusty green patina on the button. The center circle of the flower appears to be smooth with no engraving, with eleven flower petals - or is this a sun? Button is thin with (now bent-over) loop on center back. Grr...scratched it when I dug it - at least the scratches are on the back side.
The "What's It" question for me is if there is any significance to 11 petals/sunflares? I had heard of 13 being a common number of elements on similar colonial items to tie back to the original colonies, but why 11?
