IMG_0091.JPGIMG_0093.JPGIMG_0094.JPG I live in Ann Arbor Mich founded around 1826 ish No wars battles ect I'm guessing these buttons are not Military There is a V.A nearby and an old shooting spot just curious any help would be great before they go in the Misc bin. Thanks all A2coins

1st one could very well be from militia or a civil war vet. Second one is right around ww1 era. Both are military of some sort.

The backmark on the first one, Morgan Puhl & Morris, I believe dates from 1892-1905, and it wouldn’t have been made in the last few years of that span, as the army had switched to the design of your other button (The Great Seal of the U.S.)

nhbenz was very close on the date of your eagle button. McGuinn and Bazelon/s book dates it from 1893-1906. Your button would date between 93 and 1901 when the Great Seal replaced the eagle. Your Great Seal could date from 1910 to 1962 going by the "Scovill MF'G Co. Waterbury" backmark. I don't see any traces of a black finish on it so it would not date between 1917 and 1923 when the button was black. Both are nice finds and that eagle one is in very good condition. Congrats on your finds and good providence on your next hunt,

Thanks fyrffytr for the correction on those dates! I was thinking the other Did have black finish remaining, most notably on the back, inside the letters of Scovill, where it hasn’t been worn down. I may be wrong there too though.

I see what you re talking about but I see no traces at all on the front. Maybe A2Coins could tell us if that is just dirt on the front or is it crud that won't come off. Any traces of black would change the date to 1910-1923.
