The first picture is of a tool I found along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in 1970. It is hand sized and is a chopper or hand ax or such. It is a brown jasper that does not seem to have been heat treated. The second picture is a piece of Pennsylvania Vera Cruz jasper I found about 6 weeks ago. The color is totally different, although it's hard to tell in these pictures which were taken inside. The third piece is a piece of the Newark (Delaware) jasper, recently collected. It also is a different color.

So my question is this? Where did the material for the first piece originate? Ideas? Thanks. IMG_0462.JPGIMG_0464.JPGIMG_0466.JPG

There's a seminar tomorrow at the Indian Steps Museum on the Susquehanna. I'm going to take a couple jaspers there to have them take a look at. Dr. says no digging for at least another 2 weeks.

That’s an amazing place , I haven’t been there in years but miss it wish I could make it tomorrow I’m sure it will be great ..... when I lived closer to there I tried to make a trip atleast yearly

I joined their group so am on the email list.

Yes, that one's also jasper.

I found out for the sure piece on the left in the original photo is from a new, to modern folks, jasper find called "Carsin's run jasper" in Harford County, MD.

So your saying there has recently been identified a vein or source for jasper material in Carsins Run, or that general vicinity ? pretty cool!
