Heat a needle and see if it will penetrate the piece. If it does than it is not ivory.

Ok franks!... It looks like there was some sort of bone on the bottom?? Do you know if they use to put bone on ivory?

I heated a needle red hot and it didn't go in! Are you sure this piece looks like real ivory?

It looks like green jasper to me? does it feel heavy for its size?
The reason I say this is because one side looks like gray slate attached to it?

Is that some type of grit applied to one side? If so, I'm guessing it's a nail file.
It might be bone or ivory or celluloid. Here's a good site to help you identify the material.

To me it looks like a removed tile, the lines on the back look to have been applied with a toothed trowel? Bakelite has that look. Is there a chip on one edge? HH
