Last month i found this lock at an old park at a fairly deep depth. When it came out of the ground the rust was so thick, i assumed it was just a piece of iron. For some reason i decided to beat a little rust off the object with my digger and sure enough the shape of a lock appeared. the picture below is what i came home with.
After about 3 weeks of soaking in vinegar and lots of picking away with a screw driver i now have a better looking lock. I may do a little soak in some baking soda to help neutralize the vinegar and then hit it with some oil and oven bake to help keep it from rusting again.
Anything else i can do? I really want to get inside the lock to clean out the dirt and rust further but that may be impossible.
Anyhow...Happy hunting and dig till you drop!
