I've had a pretty good year finding some firsts in my two year digging career... I've been fortunate to have found my first double date (1920) Mercury dime, a 1903 Barber quarter, a Franklin Half dollar, and a 1943 Canadian dime. I've been pretty happy with those finds among several others that I've been fortunate to make this past year.

I've also found a site that continues to give up older coins from the turn of the century and can now add my first key date or semi key date Indian head penny. Depends who you ask if it's a key date. Anyway, I'm thrilled to have found an 1872 Indian Head Penny which for 1872 makes it the 5th smallest montage for Indian Head Pennies at just over 4 million.

Couldn't be happier with the year I've had!

Joe

Congrats on the great finds that you have made over the past 2 years.
We have 70 degrees in NYC today.
You're making it sound like your hunting season is over.
Come on,, we don't quit 'til the ground freezes down to 4 inches

WTG AJ, Nice indian. It's been a great IHP year for me. I have pulled over 20 this season.

Gotta love them Indians!

Congrats on that Indian  But I am confused as to what you mean by a double date Mercury dime?

Tinaman68,

I'll be out of town until Monday but the wife works late three nights next week! So you're on!!!

Congrats on that Indian  But I am confused as to what you mean by a double date Mercury dime?

I found a 1920 Mercury dime where the date was stamped twice. I sent it in for grading to NGC but they would not grade it as a double die/mint error even though the definitions on their website differ. Basically if it's not listed under their Variety plus section they will not certify a coin as a mint error for a variety of reasons. I've attached a pic so you can se a double date/ double stamped date.
