HI all
Just wanted to post a few pictures of a couple of items that I found last weekend at what I consider a virgin homestead site. There are no bear cans or bottles thrown around the property.YEAAAH!!! The town historian gave me some directions of where about this site was in the woods. I followed them and came to the site rather easily. I'm sorry I don't have any pics of the site itself, but it has a decent size foundation, a well about 9ft deep(no water) and a large sheep pen or something.
I found this half of a plate buried about 6 inches below the surface. It still had a trademark on the back, so I was able to at least put a year to the site. The trademark was Furnival & Sons, which goes back between 1871-1890.
The shoe templates that I found on the site were made of metal and were very easy to detect. I brought the shoe templates down to our local historical society and donated them since here in Derry, we used to have 7 shoe factories spread out all over town. I put a modern shoe there as a comparison so you can see the size difference. He loved the items and they will be displayed in the near future. He says that they are quite rare since they usually get thrown away for just rust away in the ground. If anyone is in Derry, don't hesitate to stop at the local historical society, Rick, the historian is a wealth of information. (Thurs & suns only) 1-4 pm.
I've only detected a small amount of the property thus far and will be returning in the near future to see if I can find any other items of interest. (hopefully some coins!!) I'll let you all know if I come across any other items. Of course I found some other junk metal and stuff on the property, but I will only give you the good stuff.
HH to all.
