I met up with new member VTX today and we hunted an late 1800's homesite on my familys property. Found a truckload of rusty metal a couple bullets and about 4 miles of barbed wire fence. No coins, But we had a great time getting to know each other and sharing stories. We plan on doing it again and maybe next time we'll find some coins.
First pic is VTX learning to swing his detector in the woods. Someone needs to invent a detector mounted on the end of a weedeater.:laughing7:

Yes we did have a great time and I enjoyed the hunt and the company very much.

Had to go to the park afterwards just to find a coin. 6 pennies and a dime. Went home hungry.
Eat mass quantities of dead chicken parts.

Half your work is already done. Mount the control box right below the weedeater's trigger, and place the coil down near the head. Most weedeater heads' metal content is only in the string reel spring and the axle spring; anyone with an AT Pro (lol) could use the elimination feature to tune out the aluminum/steel and be set.

Grab your headphones to tune out the noise, and let us all know how it turns out!

Leave it to a 3rd class yeoman to come up with that one. :-)

Lol, every time I take a friend out we don't find anything either. It's all about the the outdoors and trying to get your close friends to enjoy metal detecting too. Lol

Explain please.

My rate symbol is not two crossed feathers (yeoman). It's a feather across a lightning bolt, which is a CT, or cryptology tech. My CT specialty was linguistics (CTI). I was a PO3 at one point, so my rate was CTI3, and since I got my surface warfare pin, I get to add the (SW) to it.

A yeoman is an overglorified secretary. CTs are part of the intelligence community.

You'll definitely find coins or some really groovy relics there! Eventually! It's ironic how when we encourage friends to join us, the finds can be few. After two years of hearing & seeing pics of my & my son's detecting finds here in coastal Calfornia, my sister & her hubby visited us from western New York. Sis was eager to learn detecting and hubby came along to the beach too. Result was the windiest beach day we've had in the 13 years I've lived here! Most of our energy was spent trying not to be knocked over by wind on beach and dunes! Very funny and all four of us had a blast! "Best" find was dug by sis -- the largest beer can any of us had ever seen! We kept it. Nobody found the jewelry or coins that sometimes pop up at that beach, lol. HH Andi

My bad. Thanks for the info. I'm trying to remember if CT was a rate when I was in the Navy, prolly was but I don't remember it.
I was in from 1959 to 1981.

Yeah, we had a great day. The weather was beautiful, we were out in the pasture and woods and I worked up quite an appetite.
Nice story of yours.
