Mason-Dixon Line
Detector(s) used
eyes, ears, wet finger in the wind and old willow sticks, when that don't work; Minelabs
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I had been researching this location for several years, always keeping it in the back of my mind, among the cobwebs. Yesterday I got a break with some information that came in a casual conversation. After a quick trip to the courthouse to copy the aerial map and get owner's names, I stopped at a buddy's house to see if he knew the landowner. Not only did he know him, he is the caretaker and had a key to the gate! Bingo...
The gravel road runs right up to the site, couldn't be more convenient.
Several old square nails is always a good sign, then pop, 1837 LC, then flat bottons, spoon pieces, thimble, another 182X LC bent, shield nic...then darkness fell...I called my hunting buddy as soon as I got home.
We started at 10 this morning and I was pumped, thinking, "if I did this good just scouting, we outta clean up with a tight grid".
It was not to be...at least not this trip. A few more buttons, tons of round bullets for both of us and ONE Capped Bust half dime...1832, for my buddy. And he even thanked me for the invite...dohhh
Truthfully, I love finding old goodies, but there is a twisted side of me that enjoys seeing my buddies dig good stuff too, even in fields I find. It's all good.

Awesome stuff... I like seeing my buddies get stuff too... I sometimes feel bad if we go to a site and I get all the goods. Best when you all get something to put in the keeper pouch.

Great finds, both of you :headbang:

In '09 took a buddy to a new site and he reeled in a capped bust halfdime and Virginia Halfpenny, and I rolled a donut :laughing7: .. But, in the midst of my frustration due to the lack of keepers in my pouch, I was still happy he found them

Thanks for the views and taking time to comment.
It really is about the fun here in my world. Don't get me wrong, I am competitive by nature, but mostly with myself. I truly love to be wherever treasures are found, both firsthand and secondhand.
The two of us cover a lot of ground, he more of a jump-around-scout, myself more methodical. "So between the two of them, they licked the platter clean".

Very nice capped bust silver!! I see you found a "Good For" token. Anything interesting on it?

Nice to see some awesome research and no fear in asking around. Well done!!! :icon_thumleft:

My best find to date has been on TNet, my hunting partner, Lakemonster. He and I have hit it off very well, in spite of a very large age difference (I could be his father, maybe even grandfather!). The point I am trying to make is that he and I have been sharing all of our info and hunting together. His finds may as well be mine when it comes to the excitement of discovery and vice versa. He is much more experienced at this sport than I and he is always willing to share his expertise. I thank him all the time for what he has taught me. Hunting together gives both of us the opportunity to compare signals and interpretations of the same, with different detectors. He is the investigative sleuth and historian, I'm the guy that stumbles on good hunting spots.....we make a great team!
