Hello all, had a great day on an old ferry landing trail. Got a good hit with my at gold after digging lots of old cans and tinfoil and uncovered the dagger style knife (sorry about the sideways pics) worked my way up the trail about 10' and got a crisp 81 on the detector and started to dig and pulled out a 1950 Canadian penny , stepped back and swung again , more signals. Pulled a total of 5 Canadian copper pennies the oldest 1932 the newest 1956 and a rusty bottle cap. Looks like someone sat down to have a brew and spilled his pennies out. When I was done with that I decided to backtrack a bit and see if I missed anything. I got a solid signal about 2 yards back and dug the miniature cast iron locomotive from about a foot down in the clay. I'm pretty sure they heard my war whoop back in town when I realized what I'd found. The ironic thing is that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the railroad in this area. Hope everyone enjoyed my story and hh.

Thanks Andi, I've cleaned it up a bit ( cast iron) the rear has a broken section and was wondering if any railroad guys on tnet might think there would be a matching coal tender for this piece still out there. I don't think it's a toy, maybe a momento that was given out to commemorate the RR coming to town.

Hey those are some great finds! That train is really cool. Some of my best finds have come from 2 different ferry landings. Great places to hunt

I think the knife is the prize find of the hunt. Looks mid 1800s to me.

Solid find re the locomotive. I think it may be a toy. Lots of good cast iron sites on the web. I'm sure you can find something to confirm. Have you been able to get into the water?

Thanks everybody, I am searching the cast iron sites when I get a chance DWN. BB very good chance its from the mid 1800s maybe earlier. The site I'm at dates back to the early 1800s in fact, famed explorer David Thompson passed by here in 1799. Very aggressive fur trade in the area and the Cree natives spearheaded westward expansion of trade about 30 years before the whites and they were well armed with iron tools and weapons having come from eastern Canada.

Hi DMN, no I havn't been in the water yet, terrible shoreline almost like quicksand in most places, I will have to wait for low water. I still have to search the other side of the ferry run, but it might be on private property now. Thanks for your interest and I'm going back out there on sunday and see what I can find.
