Detector(s) used
Garrett GTI 2500 & XL500 SEAHUNTER-PULSE
The weather was beautiful and I got the urge to metal detect. I grabbed my faithful Garrett GTI 2500 and headed 27 miles to an old fairground that closed in 1957. I have hunted it a couple of times, each year for at least 25 yrs, after the crops are out and before they plant it in the spring. Each time that I have hunted it I have found silver. Obviously, any denomination, .10 or above, is silver and all pennies are wheats or older. I have never left there without some coins. Fortunately, the owner doesn't let anyone else go in there with a detector. This year, the field was in beans and they, recently, tilled up the ground so that the soil is loose, down to approx. 3". It couldn't have been any more perfect for metal detecting.

I drove down to the old fairgrounds, today, to see if I could find some more coins. This time, in about two hours of hunting, I dug up four Mercury dimes, a silver War nickle, and nine Wheat pennies. I, usually, find silver every time I go there.

You've got yourself a real silver mine! I'd drive a hundred miles for odds like that :o

Take care & HH!

WOW! What a super site you have there Swanie!

Great finds. Do you ever find anything else there also? (tokens, keys, etc.)

Thanks for sharing.

Wow you sure have a good spot there congrats on all the silvers bud .

Hey Blackjack77,
The coin depth registered from 1" to 5" on my GTI 2500 dial. It may be hard to believe but some of the Mercury dimes were within the 1" range and all I had to do was move some loose dirt aside and there they were. I find coins every time I go there, each year, after the field has been worked up. The imaging was working pretty well. I was using the 12" spider imaging coil.

Swanie,
I would much rather pick silvers than beans.
Looks like a Honey Hole that doesn't run dry or at least not yet anyway.
Good job.

Great finds Swanie, gotta love the old fairgrounds!!!By the looks of your finds,at least the ones your showing us,it would appear that your running your machine in a high discrimination setting as I see no nickles other than the 40% wartime. You could be making a big mistake if this is the case.A spot like that has a very good potential for a gold coin and if your not digging nickles you probably won't get the gold coins and jewelry and tiny silver coins such as the silver 3 cent and Canadian fishscale nickle.I speak from experience http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,88390.0.html and don't mean to lecture,I just would hate to see you miss out on anything good. Congrats on the finds and I wish you many more!!!
