Hi guys,

Found this VERY worn out copper this morning. Very thin. I know it's a long shot but are you able to ID it. I believe I see a D. If that's correct it's the only identifiable feature of the coin. Was found in an eastern Massachusetts colonial field.

Also found the Merc today but in a different field.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I think that's it. I thought I was seeing an E after the D. Has to be it. What do you guys suggest I do to better clean it. So far I only used a toothpick to remove the dirt. Olive oil?

I'm not so sure the "D" on your coin seems higher up than the "DE" shown in the reference photo.

Out of curiosity...is it the size of a quarter?

From researching the Net, the Liard should be 23mm in diameter. Wanted a caliper for a long time. Had to get it for this one. :-)

It's a confirmed Liard de France

Thanks to Bramblefind for the positive ID. I compared my coin with a picture from the web. Here are the results. Will not be able to get a year out of this one but given when they were minted I doubt I'll ever dig a coin older than this one in the US.
