The coin is not a William III copper it is a King George I from what I see.

Put me down for a William III, or rotted William & Mary. Depends on the spacing, I didn't look.

Is it the right size for a half-cent?

If not, please forgive my ignorance, I've never dug anything older than an Indian.

I think the years written are meant to only include the years produced... so 1695-1701.

Farthing I think would be about half cent size. A British Halfpenny would be in the range of large cent.

A William III Halfpenny is same size of a 1797 Large Cent, the farthing like the Halfpenny does not have that wide rim I see on the reverse side, but a King George I does, both Halfpenny and Farthing although a Farthing is smaller than what I see in the photo.

Measure the unknown coin, one of my KGI Halfpenny is 25.8mm, while my 1797 Large Cent is 28.8mm, and several William III Halfpence all around 28mm and a KGI Farthing at 22.4mm.....................

Again, I said KGI based on what appears to be the wide rim, which William Coppers do not have.

I know them, but rarely find em! That's pretty old for a Brit. coin here.

I based more on the bust, but did notice the rim. I think it's William and slightly off center. The George rim is very pronounced and I don't think it would be worn down that much even on that coin.

It is too small for a William III Halfpenny. But photos can be deceiving but he said it is smaller. I am not looking at the bust, too much corrosion to distort so went by size, the rim and his statement of being smaller........

I can't even make a guess at the size. It looks like two different coins with the angle in the first pic making it look like a farthing, but then up close a halfpenny. I'll wait for the diameter.
