This if from last week's outing. Went back with EastcoastHunter to old woods (which we believe we're at one point farmlands)

I scored few oldies including an unrecognizable half Reale

Found this large coin (no idea what it is) with a nail through it, any I'd help will be appreciated:

An old shoe buckle??

Any help with I'd of some of these items would be appreciated. We know it's an old site, the targets are few and between but also very little modern trash, which makes digging a target quite exciting.

Thanks for looking and happy hunting tNet!

Yeap 18th C shoe buckle.

I've heard of them cancelling tokens/counterfeit coins with a nail in the middle, but can't ID it.

Very nice saves!

The 1/2 real may be from the reign of Carlos IV (perhaps others).
The 'D', (dot), 'R' is part of the reverse legend reading HISPAN.ET.IND.R.M.F.M.
if so, that coin was minted between 1790 and 1808.
Don......

Thanks Don, I was assuming Carlos 3 or 4th.

Nice digs bud. That's certainly a coin with a nail through it. There are two ideas with nailed coins. First Crusader's suggestion of counterfeit coins. The second is coins were nailed to house framing for good luck.

Nice digs!

Yes, I've heard of them nailing jettons to pub beams for decor/luck.

Awesome hunt man! This is a group of really interesting finds. That trigger mechanism just made me google for the last 20 min and I came up empty handed. I don't think its going to be to a gun, but I was thinking some sort of medical tool like a blood letter trigger, but I cant find any exact matches. I'll look some more later on... definitely a spring loaded trigger to something and ornate too. Nice job on the Spanish too and I'm looking forward to seeing what sort of coin that is with the nail through it. :occasion14:

very nice finds, very interesting too. congrats

Well done Bart.

I am very interested in the coin with the nail through it ID. Hopefully someone will come along shortly and ID it.

Best of luck you young fella!

Bart,
I did a bunch more searching on this piece because its interesting to me for whatever reason. I think its a spring loaded latch for a shutter or cabinet. Mounted with the shield part up by the two recessed screw holes. I can't find an exact match, but the function would possibly be similar to these shutter latches. Both are spring loaded, but you get the idea how it might have worked.
