old button - any ideas?

Sorry there's not much to go on here, but I was wondering if anyone else has ever found a button like this one. It appears to be made of aluminum or tin. I don't see any markings on the front, and the back is pretty rusted out so no markings there either.

Any guesses as to how old this might be?

I think its an end cap like the ones used on kids toys to hold the wheels to the axles.

You know something - you might be right on that. It does look like an end-cap to something like a kids toy wheel.
