I might post this in the "What is it" section as well. Haven't been able to go out much, but I was able to find this at my great-great aunt's house. The house was built in the late 1800's, but judging by the Indian Head pennies that I've found there, I'm pretty sure that the property dates back to alot older than that. Anyway.....found this item about 6 inches down. I THINK its copper, because it has turned green. Its about 2 inches in diamter. There is tiny writing on the back, but I can't make it out ???. Any help would be appreciated....thanks! and Happy Hunting!!!

Beautiful buckle. Congrats. Your great-great aunt could be a wonderful source of information for you. Have you asked her about where the old soda shop was? Or where the community events were held? Talking with her could help you find some other great places to detect. Take a tape recorder (or whatever the current equivalent device is) and get her to reminisce for you.

Cool buckle, congrats.

I agree with Monty: suspenders buckle/clip, probably late 1800's.

Note the buckles and tabs in these c. 1870's-80's suspenders patent drawings:

I defer to PBK. Yes, its a buckle but not a belt buckle. Still freaking cool.

Treasure Tales - I would, but she passed away about 2 months ago, at age 97. Before the estate gets her property, I got permission to detect her big lawn.

Oh, what a shame. Sorry to hear that. She lived a long life, hope it was mostly a happy one. And I hope you find many more old items at her house, little reminders of your gg aunt. She must have seen a lot of changes in her life!

My Grandmother died one day short of 103. She was born in a horse and buggy and went out in the Space Shuttle. Unbelievable! :o Monty
