I might post this in the "What is it" section as well. Haven't been able to go out much, but I was able to find this at my great-great aunt's house. The house was built in the late 1800's, but judging by the Indian Head pennies that I've found there, I'm pretty sure that the property dates back to alot older than that. Anyway.....found this item about 6 inches down. I THINK its copper, because it has turned green. Its about 2 inches in diamter. There is tiny writing on the back, but I can't make it out ???. Any help would be appreciated....thanks! and Happy Hunting!!!

If its indeed a buckle, then what is the "nipple" thingy towards the bottom, thats raised?

Isn't that where the other end of the belt attached?

Isnt that an old garter buckle? If that thing could talk...

For some reason it brings the thought of suspenders to mind. But my mind is weird , so? nice find anyway. Monty

Whatever it is! It's a nice relic to come across. Great Find!!!

I agree with Monty: suspenders buckle/clip, probably late 1800's.

Note the buckles and tabs in these c. 1870's-80's suspenders patent drawings:
