The Boys scout camp was started back in the 1930's . Today it is the Valley camp resort , I have been camping there for about 3 years and have a camper and site way back in the woods..One day I decided to go out and detect one of the old paths back behind my camper, Knowing all about the scout camp I found a few coins here and there..a few minutes later two hikers camp up to me and we started talking ,interested in the metal detector he asked a few questions about it...Then we got talking about the camp and he said he use to camp here when he was a boy....then through the years he became a cook here for the scouts and then the scout camp closed back in the 1960's ...
Now thinking about this place I asked him about the site and he told me their were 26 areas in this site where the boy scouts camped. I said are you serious that many he said yes all through the area ...Now as he and his friend made of down the path I am thinking there is no way all those areas have been detected..When I read the history at the store about this place it never mentioned about how many areas were here that the scouts camped just how old and the lake area....
Now I made my way down a path to the area where I have seen some old trees and a nice flat area which would look like a nice area to pitch tents...suddenly I started finding wheats , then some silver dimes , and scout items..I know I had found a undetected area and buy the end of the day I had found 46 coins and anumber of cool items....
The second time out I went back and started where i left off and found more coins and scout items ,then I made my way to another area towards my camper but up on a hill and again started finding more coins ,the first one was a washington quarter, more wheat backs and more Silver dimes....This was great and the stuff was in little areas here and there.... Now going back to the camper I knew I had a bunch of nice coins and items and when I got back and cleaned of the stuff I had 56 coins ....I had to call my friend TimH...told him and invited him out the following weekend.
Now the weekend came and we walked back to the area and started detecting ,within five minutes tim finds a silver religious medal and it was nice , we had a blast by the end of the day we had all kinds of coins Washington quarters,Mercury& rosies dimes, Indianheadand Silver war nickles, and a mess of wheat pennies .Plus a bunch of scout items...This is a nice site and thanks to the info the old timer gave me I might have not known what to look for. Now that we have found 3 of the 26 known sites this spring should be pretty interesting if we find the others....Hope you like the story and good luck in your future Digs!!!

I have been dragging my tent around all day! You didn't tell me the address of this place so I could pitch my tent. Wait!!! That is my walking liberty half I lost. Now I know were this place is. Just send the half to me and we will call it even.

I am green with envy. I know how you feel , almost. I have been hunting a scout camp only mine is only 35 years old. But those little guys sure can loose a lot when camping in tents. I will be camping there the middle of March for the weekend with my troop. I won,t have to teach anything so I will have all weekend to explore and detect. Good luck to you.

You Boyscouts probally already know this ,but I was looking at the YEOMAN CAA pin and since I have alot of archery items...I found this ...
Companionate of the Queen's Yeoman: those who have served the kingdom in the capacity of Queen's Yeoman. Election into this order rests solely with Her Majesty, and is given to those who have shown outstanding archery skill in winning the Queen's Yeoman Archery Competition. Members are elected only once to the order, though they may serve the kingdom as Queen's Yeoman upon more than one occasion.
A system of rankings has been devised to recognize the skill of the kingdom's archers, based on their Royal Round averages: Novice, Bowman, Yeoman, Forrester, Bowmaster, Bowmaster Extraordinaire, and Bowmaster par excellance. The first five ranks are held permanently; the last two must be re-earned each year. ........wondering if this was a carry over to the Scouts awards system...

that walking liberty is awesome! i would have passed out i if had dug that one!

You really found a great spot. Amazing how much stuff scouts can leave behind.
Keep hitting that place.

What is nice about this site is the size of this camp ground...The scout camp it self was hundreds of acres and stretched along the main creek and along both sides of the ridge on this property so finding other sites should not be hard.....Thanks for the questions and also the kind words..... :)

.....................we are patiently waiting to see what you found over the weekend.... ;)......come on show us your stuff.....we know you have some :P........
