Detector(s) used
Minelab Explorer SE/Garrett GTI 2500/ Ace 250
i was researching another topic when i stumbled across a few pictures of an old swimming beach at the turn of the century packed with people. i realised that this beach is now a popular fishing place and is pretty much the same now as it was then. maybe the beach is a bit smaller now and more overgrown but pretty much the same otherwise.i have no reason to believe that sand was ever added to this beach and it is on a river so hurricanes and storms would probably not have deposited a ton of sand on it. my question is ............do you think there is a possibility of finding some old coins at this spot or would they be so deeply buried in the sand at this point that they would be out of reach? im sure i could find clad and stuff there because people still fish there but thats not really what i am after.what do you think? are the odds in my favor?

If your detector goes in the water Hollow I would be there in a flash. I would still be there if you feel it hasn't been disturbed and hunt it as much as possible. Are you in Florida ? The finds should all be within striking range especially in the water areas. Plus if it has had a little tide action then which ever way the storms blow in from and not the prevailing winds is the way to go. Check around any out cropping and the like. Sounds like a fantastic place to me. Let us know. HH

Try a little off the beach too as these "inland" areas are less likely to have been impacted by erosion. Should be lots of stuff from people going in and out of the area.

no floater i am in the mid atlantic region. this beach is about an hours drive but i think i will make the trek down there if not this weekend then next weekend.ill try to hit it at low tide because the water is so polluted at this point you really dont want to get in it too much.thanks for the advise.

Oh so your near PortsMouth! Just kiddin. What detector do you use Hollow. The pollution is a consideration and if you have a wetsuit wear it or some waders. Let us know how it works out.

Lots of work, but you could skim about six inches of surface (after detecting well) and then detect again for deeper signals. I had good luck using this method at an old battle site (CW). Just make sure to clean up after you "clean up"

actually delaware floater. this water is so polluted i might want to wear two pair of waders! its the kind of spot that you go swimming at and get a tetnus shot all at the same time!! the nuclear plant is about 3 miles away, and im not a big fan of glow in the dark shins so waders would be a must! ive got an ace 250. digging a test pit is an interesting idea. skimming might be worth it too. the beach is sandy so it probably wouldnt be backbreaking work to do either ideas.

Let us know how the Ace works out near the water. is the coil waterproof on those. If i see the North East corridor go down I'll know its just you playing near the plant. ;D
