This is an item that has puzzled me for a while. I found one in Virginia as a kid and have misplaced it. I dug this one in Kentucky this year, and below is a link to one that was found and posted online by someone else.

Mine were housesite finds--so I would think that the piece is farm or farming implement related, or perhaps horse-related...

Here's the link to the other one.

These seem to appear at sites that date from 1800-1860, give or take.

Best Wishes,

Another piece of junk IDed. I find (toss) loads of these, often wondered what they were.
I don't believe a professional like yourself "toss" anything Cru! I sure don't.

I'm a million miles away from being a Pro. As a rule I never toss things I haven't IDed. However things like the above which are modern & I find plenty of I have no need to keep.

The thing you pictured above is part of an umbrella. I toss these as well (had hundreds), nearly 1 a trip.

UPdated....

Maybe you are a million miles away of being a metal detector pro (although I don't agree with you about that), but you and your Cru-Dad know much much and much about stuff and are pro's in that field.

It's really funny how people in different places find different things.

Here I was talking about the window shade part, the items that you have ID'ed Cru I have found a few.... Thanks for your determination!
I have NEVER found one of these in the 22 years that I have been searching, not in Holland, England, Poland, Serbia, France, Belgium and Germany. And you there have found so many! Really wierd.
