Had a club hunt yesterday with about 25 members on a property that was supposed to be virgin ground and dating back to 1900. My nephew and I are swinging away and not finding much at all till my ATP screamed and showed a 92, hmmm what could this be. Dug up an item that baffled me and I showed it around. Everyone that saw this thing had their ideas but the main one was a laser pointer..it was little bigger than a nickel in diameter and couple inches long, purple with weird markings on it and had an obvious screw cap and on each end was a hole. I couldnt remove the cap at first and as I showed it to Born2detect who's in my club I was able to unscrew the cap...oh wow inside was not batteries as expected but a good amount of weed, people I unearthed a well disguised pipe.

We had people pulling up large cents, half cents, half reals, standing liberty quarters, V nickels and what do I get---but a case of chronic literally. I dumped out the crap and soaked it for a few hours, it will make for an interesting piece to vote on at the next club meeting.

I've soaked this thing for hours and still can't get the smell of pot out of it. I want to keep it as a "find" and a conversation piece but not of it reeks of Mary Jane. Any ideas on how to rid the smell?

Soak it in rubbing alcohol. Perhaps, mix and rub with Epsom salts and alcohol.

Glad your club had a nice hunt! Tag that piece of paraphernalia, date, time, place found, witness names, etc.....
I would hate to see anyone (especially a cop) try to give you a hard time over it.

I won't say exactly how I know how to remove that scent...but there's a product called "natures miracle" that you can buy at most pet stores. Soak it in some of that. Works every time. Or so I've heard.

Worrying to much over the smell. Now if it was a vial full of blow yeah I'd worry. IF someone hassles you when u go to court just show the judge a predates photo and maybe this post that'll get you off. Tell them u dug it up. Remember they have to prove you were using it for illegal purposes. I see guys on here worry all the time about things like this, I guess it just must be a old guy worry, gramps was the same way.

Well I found it 3-4 inches deep and when I was able to open it the thing was full of wet weed. Was able to get the weed out but umm somehow I remember someone telling me that weed can really gunk up your pipes, bongs etc if not cleaned can't remember the guys name but that's not the issue...the thing was gunked up and I would rather have it as clean as I can plus it really stinks, I don't know what they were using..skunk weed i guess or maybe I am getting old. Have a daughter in the house and don't want ideas floating.

I found a metal pot pipe in salt water while detecting. It had some salt crud built up on it. I cleaned and cleaned it and still could not get the smell of pot out of it. It was a neat pipe.... with all these screw ends on it that configured to different ways to take it apart and put back together different ways. But nothing took the smell out. I wanted to keep it for "my finds". But I was not going to take that chance with the smell lingering. So I played it safe and chucked it into the trash.

I probably will throw it away after the next club meeting. Maybe soak it in engine degreaser and glue it shut and tag it where etc. And put it with the other crazy crap i find. I like the stories that go with the finds. Besides im greedy I never pass just puff.

I love how everyone's giving you advise on cleaning this apparatus. Wonder if its the same way they clean their bongs and bowls. Lol.

try using a 50/50 mix of amonia and water soak it for a couple of days then rinse and give it a wash with dawn dish detergent rinse again that might do it
