Oh Man That's Not A Merc... Seated Surprise!

Went out this morning to get a hunt in at a place I've been having good luck with on silver. It's an old school that was built in the 30's, so my finds haven't been older than that. I have gone over the place really well but was trying to go over areas I haven't been. It was slow going and after two hours I was ready to go when I decide to hit a spot close to the road. Lots of trash like deep cans. I had got a good signal that turned out to be junk, a few feet over I got another great signal and dug out a nice silver dime. I have found about a dozen Mercs from here and was hoping for another one. As I looked at it closely, I spotted the arm of Lady Liberty! After taking some pics I carefully rinsed it off with water to reveal this beautiful 1890 Seated Dime! What a great surprise and what a way to end a slow hunt! HH Dave

Same here. I made the 1700's Silver club, but still haven't found my first silver from the 1800's. Found a cut quarter of a 8 Reales earlier this year with 3 digits of the date, 797. Really hoping to find a 1800's silver before the year ends!

Spanish silver is so awesome! Congrats on that cut piece of 8 Reales! I hope you get over an 1800's silver soon!

I'm still looking for that seated, I found a quarter but it turned out to be contemporary counterfeit. I know someday I'll dig some, just hope its later today, ha lol. Yours is very pretty, nice shape!

That's disappointing on your quarter being counterfeit, but those are cool finds too! Hope you get your first seated soon!

Man, that's fantastic and in nice shape too. My only seated is an 1877 that looks like somebody sanded it down, then put it in acid. Felt way thinner than a dime when I pulled it out of the dirt and so light that I thought it was an aluminum disc of some sort. Only when the light is at the right angle can you make out whutitizz. Congrats on a great find!

Thanks man! Yeah that sounds like my first Seated dime. It is paper thin but you can make out the date of 1887. I hope your next one is sharp!

That coin is in great condition. Liberty is full.

I guess I am lucky. I don't get on too many really old places, but I have found a few seated dimes and I found a handful of 1800s coins. Still haven't broke into the 1700s yet.

Great job Dave! Those Seated coins just don't seem to show up very often. Not sure why. I had found several LCs and KGs before I found a seated. Actually found a 1782 2 Reales before my first seated....but on the same day lol
