Ok...I didnt find these today...the 1829 capped bust half-dime I found two days ago, and the 1875 seated dime I found a week ago or so.
But I just started metal detecting and joined the forum so I wanted to share. I am in Maine at an old inn built in 1816 which served as a post
office, stagecoach stop, dance hall, etc and has been in continuous operation. In my first 20 minutes, and my very first time metal detecting I
found the 1875 dime which is in great shape. I returned to the area the following week, which was two days ago, and unearthed the half-dime
which is also in really great shape. To say I am thrilled with this new hobby is an understatement! I have also found a 1963 silver US quarter
and a pocketful of clad and pennies. I am using a Fisher F2, and it seems to be a great detector. Already paid for itself! The half-dime was deep.
Id say eight inches at least..probably deeper. But what a rush. I recommend to anyone thinking about detecting, do it! It is pretty cheap to
get started and lots of fun, gets you outdoors, some excercise...allround great hobby.

Awesome finds many folks wait years just to find one of those. Congrats, welcome and happy hunting!

Looks like you don't need to go too far to get some outstanding finds!

Good luck on your old property and looking forward to some more great posts

Awesome coins, that is a great start. Congrats on that find.

Nice finds! You're correct on everything you said about the hobby...sure beats being retired and sitting in an easy chair dying a day at a time, lo! Exercise is really boring but this hobby makes it pure enjoyment!

sounds like u know how to do research. thats 70% of the battle.nice coins! im thinking about getting a f2 were u using standard or the larger coil on your 1/2 dime that was deeper ? thats damn good depth for a target that small!

Good for you, that is some old coinage, very nice.

Yes, I thought it was great depth too. I was using the standard 8 inch coil. I didnt have to do any research though...I was lucky. My friend owns the old inn...Im just starting to learn to research...but I would definately recommend the F2. Not that i have any experience with other detectors to speak from. Just that the F2 has been so easy to learn and use, and has produced some good results right off the bat

Welcome to Treasure Net !
You're off to a great start.
Keep showing up your finds, but keep the location your secret.
Don.......

Surely there are no unscrupulous metal detectorists out there who would jump a claim are there? heh heh

Great find and welcome. I started last Monday and found a gold ring already, some clads and a couple relics. I go everyday even if it's only 30 minutes. Tomorrow I go to an old mining town. Anxious to find an old coin. Can't wait to find my first Indian head penny.
