All I can tell you is that it appears to be naturally formed stone, but not just a common rock either.
I found it in a small spring fed creek.

The first hit I get Brother is that of a fossilized hoof, but as you see it has been worked and being not far from a spring makes me think it has been used by humans, but the look a scratching rock for stone work/arrow point making and possible paint mixing stone? Definitely the kind of stone that would be used to sand up a stronger platform to flake off.

No Doubt it is a Discoid with a purpose, Great find.

Well I feel like a bit of a fool but the mystery has been solved. It's extremely hard paint that dried in the can, and the can rusted away.

Everyone who held it said it's a rock, and it even made a ting-ting noise like a rock when I tapped on it with the back edge of a knife.

Lol ... I had about six different possibilities going through my head when I saw that, and none of them involved paint.

(adding paint)

Another good one is dried brown caulk removed from the tube and placed in a public bathroom stall...just sayin' :tongue3:

I tried hard to give the best that I could see, sure can be fooled as anyone can be. Here I am an Journeyman auto painter and did not recognize dried paint, I am embarrassed now, but thats ok, I have been a few times before.

Ya... thanks for that BTW....

At least I came back to admit it rather than let it ride.
