I have no clue what this is. It appears to be some sort of clamp which I dug at a midwest farmhouse. I am not sure how old the home is, but I believe it at least goes back to the 1920's. The object is 6 inches long and the loop on the end is 1.75 inches wide. There is a piece which moves up and down the stem and is notched out on the sides to nestle over the looped end. The edges of this loose piece are serrated. I don't know if it was a clamp for some pipe-like structure or served another purpose. I know it is basically iron junk, but I am just curious what I found. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

It's the internals of a nib. One of the handles on a snath. Part of a scythe (the wood is missing).

Charlie, you're amazing! I would never have discovered that on my own in 100 years. I find this so much more interesting than if it had only held a pipe. Thank you so much for your help!

Thanky! I still use scythes and sickles (and a kama) to clear weeds.

Charlie, you've got more energy and a better back than me, although I'm sure if you do it correctly, you probably don't put that much pressure on your back. I remember my dad doing a pretty nice job with a scythe.
