Tesoro Silver uMax

All Treasure Hunting
Have to admit that I didn't find it detecting. I found it at an estate sale of a WW2 vet. I'm not sure what type of metal but it is possibly aluminum. It is composed of a series of panels. On the front of one of the panels is the letter "E" with the letters "A", "R", and "T" on subsequent panels. In between the letters "A" and "R" is the center panel that says "N=8" on one side and some sort of cross on the other. It appears to be hand made but I have no idea what the specifics are. I'd appreciate any help!

So in order to determine where the metal came from, I'd obviously have to be 100% positive what the metal is but where do I go from there? Aircraft expert maybe? WWII collector? I just don't know where to go to try to confirm the source of the material.

One step at a time. Take the item to a pawn shop to see if its silver. He may be able to recognize if its aluminum or stainless steel. Aircraft grade aluminum may be different. Titanium? :dontknow: Keep in mind the item may not have much value. We dont know what it is other than its homemade..

I don't think it's titanium because it seems a bit too heavy for that. I'm not holding my breath on value so much. It's just an intriguing piece to me. Of course if it is worth something, I won't complain. I'll take it to a pawn shop sometime this week.

Contact these people- http://www.wwiiaircraftparts.com/contact_information.htm or
http://www.wwiifighteraircraftfoundation.org/contact.htm and send them this
link. Can't hurt. :dontknow:

Thanks! I'm going to get the metal tested first to make sure it's aluminum, then I will forward them this link to see what they think. Good idea!

I have read some books on local archaeolgists digs at ancient Florida Indian sites and I would have to say that they were extremely meticulous in recording every minute detail. Far, far, far more was learned and shared than the mobs of metal detectorists and treasure hunters that removed just the metal objects for personal gratification or profit before them. Im not taking sides, Im just saying.

Now where can I go to view these items pictured in the books? :dontknow: Was anything stolen by the archies and volunteer students themselves? :dontknow:

It's true Big Cypress.

Not all of them of course, but the archies have robbed us blind in Tennessee! I know this from personal experience. Bottom line in my opinion: They keep the "good stuff" in secret places.

Not to mention the fact that more than a few have extensive "private collections". ::)

Didn't mean to get "off topic" though.

I'm sure we can solve this one eventually! :icon_thumleft:
