OAK ISLAND

What I don't get is the things he digs are from the 15-17 hundreds and only a few inches deep. Makes me question if they are just plants.
Ocean tides and storms bring things up, especially after storms, that is why people find cobs after a storm.

gave up on that show years ago..... EVERY episode is always "could it be?"...."could it be?" lmao!

At the onset please forgive me for the length of this comment/opinion. Many years ago I read a story in Readers Digest that really fascinated me! It was about an island where it was believed that pirate treasure had been buried! Yes, it was Oak Island,

Years later on a motorcycle journey I visited the island. And as is so often the case it was a huge disappointment! There was a filled in hole and enough rusty machinery to be described as a junk yard.

That brings me to the present. After following the TV show since its beginning I need to give my honest opinion. It has become an excuse to achieve money! To convince viewers of the honesty and integrity of the project while producing one show after another that has no real proof it does exit! However the “actors” are gainfully employed. Maybe that is good thing. And maybe the treasure exists. I hope so. Not for the Brothers. For those of us who desperately clung to hope it does!

Yes, it reminds me of the TV series, Monster Quest. Every episode has someone ALMOST ready to find: Nessie, Bigfoot, chupacabra, etc. but nothing really is every accomplished. At some point it becomes a cash-generating show that lasts as long as someone is willing to pay. I find it entertaining at best.

Gary drayton is famous for finding that emerald ring on Florida treasure coast, he’s the so called detecting expert, seems knowledgeable but who knows

What do you think of Gary on Oak Island?
It’s turning into a soap opera, they changed up the other show was interesting looking for civil war gold what happened there

I will say it’s better than Axe Men reruns! I can only watch so much of the same mind-numbing activity, over and over. Cut a tree, cut another tree… hey, I know let’s cut another tree. 😀

No I’m interested in real historical finds lost treasures, but heavens sakes you can not watch for a month and nothing advances, that’s all

I think that I might also have read that article.years ago.
What ever the outcome I am impressed with all the technology that the show has introduced..

Have trouble over a show that mostly involves hundreds of years of hurricane trash washed ashore from old wrecks. There is also plenty of evidence of many such caves and sinkholes along that coast. Wish them the best, but I believe the island was only a strategic point for old sailing crews and naval forces.

I keep foolishly coming back every week to watch, and that's fine, nobody's putting a gun to my head. I don't have a problem at all with Gary. At least he finds something to look at. The show, however, does have its irritants, for sure: the d!ckhead narrator, Rick saying in 10 fancy words, what he could say in 4 simple words, the guys in the war room turning to give that stupid smile to each other every time a guest gives them another clue. On and on it goes...

In many ways I like some of the characters and story lines and you have to admire the years of determination in the face of so many costly letdowns (though as in Las Vegas, you have to know when to walk away from the table). But I also find so much absurdity in this show. Take for example he last episode with the "lead token" find by Gary. They had a metallurgist conclude it was indeed lead that originated somewhere from a belt of deposits stretching between Iran and Spain. Now they have a coin specialist saying it could indeed be a Roman coin or token.

I wrote to their website after last week's show to posit what I thought the "lead token" was: a flattened .75 musket ball into a child's whizzer toy. String was run through the two holes and the tooth notching of the edge gave it a whirling sound when spun back and forth. They are a known colonial artifact found in early American excavations. I have found two myself on eastern Long Island, NY. I have a science background. I'm more apt to believe the odds are much higher it was a children's toy rather than an ancient Roman coin. Lead "coins" are not durable objects, they tarnish and deform easily and it is a relatively common mineral. Lead shot itself was a valid form of currency in colonial America.

Last year when they found the Chinese coin, I wrote to them and said not a big deal, I have found two from the late 1700's on eastern Long Island, NY. I've recently found a third. Someone on this site found a cache of Chinese coins. I told them to search this site and they will see many found by TN members. The show starts hypothesizing about Marco Polo and Vikings.

I see too much effort by people with science backgrounds and occupations trying to force the narrative. I am not ready to say Romans were running around the eastern Atlantic seaboard or a 1700's Chinese Junk moored off of Montauk Point. Attached see a photo of my "Roman Lead Token" or child's whizzer toy I found. I think the second set of holes was an effort to balance it through different points.

The Chinese coins found in North America while detecting seem to be from the Qing Dynasty (the last dynasty). If they found a coin from an earlier dynasty (like Tang, Song, Yuan or Ming) that would be cause for more investigation.

True. But a single coin does not make a treasure trove. Plus, everyone seems to be finding the copper denominations used for small change and not issues of gold or silver which would constitute a more practical treasure in terms of transporting mass on a ship. Plus people have always collected and hoarded coins and metallic objects. Finding Roman coins in my house does not mean I have any kind of link to the Romans. There is a historical link to whalers then traders sailing to the Pacific Ocean around the Horn from the NE US coast for some time. They could have traded for or specifically bought an antique Chinese coin and brought it back.

they better find something quick or I am going to oak island and kick the commentators ass.
Having the same commentator for the Skin Walker Ranch series which follows the show ruins it to some degree. Something is legitimately strange there.

This program must have made money via sponsorship or it wouldn’t have lasted. “Follow the money” is a relevant quote. IMO this is just another reality show that is scripted and far from real. The stinking Kardashians in a different form.

This is the reason the Chicago Cubs were awful for sooooo long. Why improve when the stadium is sold out every game regardless? Oak Island doesn’t need to improve either; the audience comes back for more regardless.

They found a rubber boot and claimed it belonged to FDR! That's how ridiculous this show has become now. Please go away, Oak Island!

I think they will find a 500 year old padlock next and it will be made of 100% pure unobtainium
