NY DEC and Mountain Lions...

We should all have more respect for creation.....animals....people....etc.
The mentality of shoot at everything you're afraid of and then hang it on a wall......is not respect for anything.
One day we may end up on someone's wall..........then we would have a better understanding.
I like cat's....some people like dogs.....they're all good.
Ok....everybody hold hands now and sing "cum-ba-ya"! Brothers and sisters...........

Absolutely Gold Key, I have respect for animals, thats why I fired warning shots instead of shooting the cat. Its not so much in fear for myself, I am like a cat, I have seven lives and I have used two (Near fatal car crash, ied). Its more so in protection of my dog, I saved his life once (rescue) and I will have nobody or nothing trying to hurt him again.

Their are a lot more Mt. loins out there than people think but people are starting to see them more because of all the building moving them from where they live and hunt. People are not use to seeing them and are afraid of them unless sick, protecting young or hungry generally not a problem and yes you are lucky to see one they see you but you hardy see them. But GL and HH

I'll admit I'm more afraid of the bears....they're more inclined to challenge you.
When out of my element in Colorado (panning for gold) it was definitely on my mind that they were there.....in the woods...behind every bush...waiting
to have me for lunch......at least that's what I was thinking at the time.
We don't have bears in Middle Tennessee......but it's never a good idea to go into the woods without some protection.....venomous snakes...rabid fox....
never know what may be there. We've had several reports of bigfoot also in some counties.......just make sure you have that "out of focus" camera with you when you take their picture!

They were here long before us, I have no problem seeing wildlife like that and as long as your smart you won't have a problem. Most people will run which is exactly what you don't want to do, what you should really worry about is the ones walking on two legs they do more harm to people than any wildlife. HH

they are in every state. we have a few here too

Yeah buddy liftloop you're the man! I liked your post. The biggest thing you have to fear is animals that have been injured, maybe gotten old and losing their teeth, and can't hunt properly. They are a danger to humans; it is best to kill them outright. Coyotes are becoming a problem, particularly in urban areas. They particularly love to kill and eat house cats, so they're not all bad. I have never heard the idea of a 'barn wolf' as a natural predator of coyotes. I thought man was their natural predator. In Oklahoma some years back, I could get $65 for a coyote pelt. We kept the population down. Then, it became a horrible thing to wear animal fur, and the price dropped to about $5 a pelt, if you could find a buyer, so we quit that, and their population has greatly increased. I admire them, cause when this world passes away, coyotes will still be here.

I have seen one a couple miles out of town walking across the RR tracks. Beautiful creature but wouldn't want to make it mad.

never get in front of one and run that's for sure or who knows what could happen
then it's to bad the price drooped a lot of my friends had trap line when I was growing up
we have wild game here and i love it
city slickers come just to be showed black bear, coyotes, the timber wolves is the hardest too spot like the mountain lion very private living
but you can find there dens..

I grew up in Arenac county, Michigan, and every 3-4 years someone would report seeing a mountain lion in my area to the DNR. You'd get the same story...no such thing in these parts. My cousin and I were in a ground blind deer hunting. I was 16, he was 20. The deer were almost 3 hours late to our "party", and we couldn't figure it out, until a lion screamed right next to us. The deer were smart enough to be somewhere else. My cousin and I both went back to back, with the hair on the backs of our necks standing straight up! The cat was CLOSE,...but we never saw him. Fun times!

That's one animal that I am not afraid of, we have so many black bears around here ( North Jersey, NY) you get to learn there mannerisms. The biggest thing a bear hates is being surprised. I have had bears false charge me more than I can count, talk about scary. Its what you come to expect, growing up and living in the northern Appalachian foothills.

I live on border of pa and ny ; near Wellsboro pa-home of pa grand canyon on one side and Watkins glen ny-seneca lake on the other. everybody knows that the cats are here to reduce the dear population in this region. I have seen two in the past three years! both in summer and early in morning. I worry about the bears more, especially in spring when they're hungry......these cats are very seldom seen by many. lots of bear population though and they take a lot of fawns!! but I've noticed the dwindeling population of speed beef here in the last 10 to 15 years witch coinsides with the cats non introduction by the state..............................thanks

I agree. After walking up & almost tripping over a Bear (or almost scaring him off )

I have no fear of Black Bears.

wild Cats, like wild dogs, way to timid around here.
They see you & are gone before you see more then the dust they leave behind

Snakes ? supposedly they are out there, I don't see them. Of course I don't look for them.

On the news this morning they reported finding a Mt Lion paw print in the snow in eastern Mass.
Last spring I had two deer in my back yard and I live in a city.
The turkeys are starting to play chicken with the cars while crossing the roads.
Once in a while the schools have to keep the kids in because coyotes have been seen in the area.
Looks like the wildlife is moving back in...till they find out what the tax rate is!

Thanks for the heads up on the mountain lion. I detect the lower Hudson Valley in Putnam and Dutchess and there are some pretty remote wooded areas where one of these could easily be hanging out.

they say a timber wolf he's see you twice before you see him once.
I wounder what it is for a mountain lion,
I would love to be free as any one of them..
until one of my paws was caught in a trap...
