American eagle I think is the proper term, but silver eagle is a common term

I've always heard them called silver eagles. They are marked as a dollar, but they were never intended to circulate at face value. They are solely intended for collectors.

There are American "Silver" Eagles and American "Gold" Eagles, so both names are correct.
