I pulled this out of a deep hole at my antique site. Came out looking exactly likes this. All I did was rinse under water. It is magnetic. No rust at all, obviously been in the water a long time. I normally found iron like this encased in crud. I hit them with a hammer and something pops out. Any theories?

Appears to have the distinct pattern of wrought iron

Okay, I looked it up. Wrought iron with nickel enhancement is extremely corrosion resistant. I tested the piece with nitric acid and there are traces of nickel in it. Who would have known?! Thanks a bunch MCL.

That's because he's more curious than most of us. When we find something like that, we throw it in the scrap metal bin! :laughing7:

Seriously, I couldn't agree with you more. I want to know everything I can about the site I am hunting. It is still garbage, but is another piece to the puzzle I am trying to solve...

Amen brother, amen!
