I found thid seel ring a few years back while metal detecting along the banks of the Susquehanna River in PA. I have yet to find out what it sybolizes or where it might have originated from. The only information I could get on the ring is that it is probably dates back to the 16 or 17 hundreds.

I think this is probably my favorite find to date.

There are many varieties and examples. Look at the center and far bottom of Spain's coat of arms.

ya but these ones curve up ... and the bottom does look like a heart .. or maybe a basket... im having a hard time trying to find some kind of historical images of something that matches it...but the Fluer is pretty close and i still dont know what the 5 on top is supposed to mean...

The symbol ontop looks like a backwards 5

Yes, probably used as a stamp or seal.

also I think this is a lotus flower around a heart...5 meaning maybe an anniversary

Thanks for all the great replies!

you are very right it is a seal ring its for the person to vow to stay pure until marriage and they give a letter to there spouse that has the exact same symbol on the letter that is sealed with wax he then breaks the seal and opens it up and reads the letter they are pure its a religious thing

You sound very sure, there is no doubt that is what it symbolizes? If so thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! You have no idea what I have gone through trying to find out what this ring symbolizes!

Jer, Have you thought about moving this to "What is it"? More people will see it and work on solving this mystery, if it still is.

Are those letters across the bottom?

http://www.fleurdelis.com/meanings.htm This site gives you the meanings of alot of symbols used for a long time...may be helpful...surely interesting.....Fleur de lis.....that would be the pattern on your ring..... ;)

Im going to try to take a better picture and post it in "What Is It", I dont think they are letters, they look more like dots, its either that or they are just letters to corroded to make out.

Hey thanks for the link!!!

I will post a cross over link to my post in "What Is It" soon!

Thanks again Jer

OK, I started a thread in the "What Is It" Forum area http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,44103.0.html

When I took the original pictures I had a Fuji camera which took awsome close ups, I now have a Kodak easy share that refuses to take a nice close up so I am having problems getting good pictures. the third picture I posted was took with a jewelrers loupe in front of the camera lens.

Thanks again for all your help and wonderful comments
