Not real pretty - But it was a Double SILVER & MILITARY day!

Out today with Ironhorse and my find of the day, a 1772 1 Real (it was followed by the 1816 George III that was a little higher in the field) actually came while we were killing time waiting to get a hold of a farmer for permission. We stopped in a field I did a quick walk through many years back and found a small iron patch and Spanish silver happened to be one of my 15 or so targets there. We eventually did catch up with our new farmer friend but the field did nothing more than tease us with a several flat buttons but no concentration. We regrouped with some coffee and drove about ten minutes to a place we picked on last year. Our site didn't give us anything so we walked a new field and found fairly old site as indicated by the pewter buttons in the pictures below. Sadly there was no coins, and really not much of anything else, but it was a good enough spot to kill the rest of the day. My 1700s Navy officer button was a surprise when I got home and don't even know where I found it and have no idea from what site. All in all it was a pretty good hunt because today was a day it would have been easy to end up with nothing.

I'd be happy with a 1 Reale such as this one. I have not found Spanish silver for 12 months or so.

always nice to hit a new spot but the finds didn't come from that place, crazy day

best finds were ones left behind by someone else, reminds of a river we haven't seen in a while, time to pay a visit

pretty good finds considering it was a 'out of the blue' sites

Not bad Patch! You guys are on the heels of the big one. Just a matter of time.

Yeah we tend to rotate better finds and I think it's my turn. (It's always my turn isn't it?)

I have found several shillings my first 5 years but have not dug one in the last 5. I said several times on our drives (including yesterday) to go detecting that I wonder why the George III Shillings don't turn up anymore.

These are actually well down on the scale for me and I prefer to add to my reale count.

I'm always happy to see Spanish in the dirt! I have a good run for a while but that last several years have only given me one per year. Get this.... in the last two hunts I have as many old silver as the last few years!

To me the real success was that by the end of the day we did find a new old site, that was a site, and not just a few things spread in the field. If only that little spot would have been several cabins I know with the age it would have been some good detecting. But it is what it is and was fun the hour it lasted.

Both silvers are nice coins. I noticed you pull alot of foreighn coins. Do you ever find LC and stuff like that. Or are your sites to old to hold those era of us coins.
