Not in "OUR" parks

Here is the response I got about metal detecting in parks . I should have figured this response. Typical of the area..
Probably get jail time for digging.

Joe,

Chapter 138 Section 3 Item L of the municipal code states that " No person
shall injure, damage or otherwise deface any buildings, structures, fences,
bridges, monuments, playground equipment or other property, or climb a tree or
break, cut down, trample upon, remove, or in any manner injure or damage any
ornament, rock, stone, tree, plant, fern, blooms, blossom, flower, or TURF".

Thank you for your cooperation.

Mine said not just not allowed in parks, but not in ANY Metro property:

(edited to remove my personal information)
Good morning Rachael:

Thank you for your message and interest in the Metro Parks.
Unfortunately, ORDINANCES
ARTICLE V. UNLAWFUL ACTIVITIES SECTION 13.24.49 PROPERTY - REMOVING
OR DESTROYING: disallows metal detecting on any Metro property.? I am
attaching the ordinance for your review.

Subject: Metro Parks Question

Dear Mr. Wilson,

My name is Rachael and I am a history student at MTSU.? I also
participate in recreational metal detecting, due to my interest in local
history.? I would like to know if there are any laws restricting this
activity in the city park.? I will not damage the ground, I will pick up
any trash I come across, and the only thing I will leave behind will be
my footsteps.? With the possibility of nice weather this weekend, I hope
to spend time in the park, but I do not want to break any laws.? I do
abide by the Code of Ethics for this hobby, which I have outlined below.

Thank you for your attention in this matter,

Rachael

Re: Not in "OUR" parks

I'd definitely be lobbying for the removal of all directors or citry managers who put forward such "policies" and make the elected officals do their job and write law. You know who your city councilman is, get to know them better and influence their decision making. Such rules are just plain silly. You can cite a multitude of activities that your parks department must spend money of repairing, chief among them allowing children and minors in the public parks. Meanwhile you can demonstrate your value as a member of the community that is performing a community service whether it's clearing trash out of your way to detect or just picking up here and there while enaged in your hobby.
