Not all was lost

Heartbreaking isn't it. All that work and suddenly the marauders move in. It sucks 😕
+1. For us it was deer. First year we moved in, Missus spent a ton of $ and BS&T planting perennials (Gardening is her thing, she loves it, and is pretty good at it).

The next spring, the flowers all came up, and bloomed for exactly one day before the friggin' deer ate them all right down to the ground. They never came up again, and Missus hasn't planted anything of substance outside since. Took the wind right out of her sails. Made her give up on the idea of growing veggies out there. 🙁

Since then, except for some deer-resistant ornamental ground cover, she's been a predominantly indoor gardener.

Deer fencing is the only solution.
Well it works great if the gate isn't left open.
Then it's a 8ft vertical trampoline show.

Yes, we know, but an 8' high eyesore surrounding an ornamental flower/rock garden (not to mention all the shrub borders around the house) kinda defeats the purpose.

Neighbor's veggie garden was too small for the deer, so he protected it with Remington rabbit fence. 😉

It seems our GSD works pretty good around the main house for the deer.

The rabbit got to the point where it didn't even look any longer at the barking idiot in the window.
That soon changed when the door opened, and the barking critter chased it a couple of hundred yards.:laughing7:
Now it doesn't come within 150ft of the house.

I get the deer fencing around the flower beds, not a very pleasing look for sure.
The Remington idea works if the freezer is empty.

Our Labs are still too young and crazy. Missus is scared to death they'll take off after a deer to play, and some trigger-happy nimrod will shoot them.
Can't blame her--lots of nimrods around here.

Our neighbor tossed the dead bunnies into the brush, where a fox came to claim the dinner. Unfortunately, the fox learned to associate a gunshot with dinner (think Pavlov), and that was later his undoing. 😢
