Well I stopped by my favorite bank branch for a box of nickels and for the third time I was not disappointed. My first box yielded 21 war nickels, the second box 17, and tonight's box 12...I had an interesting nickel with NRA stamped or carved on the back of the nickel...it almost looked like an unusual mint mark. :). Still no buffalo nickels to speak of but I can't complain. I kept six 1940, and 1939...and will return 15 1950 range nickels...

How do you get boxes of coins? I cannot without a business account. I get rejected weekly and have to buy small amounts of change in multiple different places.

I have had some hassles with not having a business license...what I have done is call ahead of time and explain what I do...and then ask if there is a good time to come in...giving them time to prepare for the pick up...the banks here have limited me to about once to twice a month...so I just go to different branches...I nearly got a business license but I negotiated and settled for coming in fewer times...it helps if you can befriend a bank clerk who likes coins...hope that helps. :)

Thanks for the reply. I have tried to order boxes too ahead of time and it's worked a couple of times but now I am just being told I can get $5 worth of change. BY the way awesome job on the nickels! Seems like there are a lot of nickel finds still out there.

They still exist in circulation. These two is all I've come by within maybe the last 7 years. The 45 P was handed back in change now maybe 7 years ago, but this 43 S wasn't maybe a year or so ago. I remember I stopped for gas in Grand Junction and after I filled up I went in and bought a pack of red vines and it was in the change handed back. Made me wonder how much silver still exists out there remaining undetected. Lucky you landed that roll. They could've been again released to head to wherever once again.

Thanks REDFERN02,
How frustrating...the bank person in charge of the boxed coins can be alittle uptight...they need the coinage for businesses but if they wanted to they could just order an extra box....I wonder if switching banks would help? Or maybe see if a business license is worth it... Then they can't say no....

I don't do nickels often, but your post got me wondering if there was something good going on. So I got one box. Just one. Found .... 0 war nickels. 0 buffaloes. 0 2009 nickels. 0 2024 nickels. and only 4 pre 1960 nickels in the entire box. HA! I guess i'll stick with other denominations. Fun for a diversion, but definitely not a good run here in AZ.

When I lived in Washington state I had similar results... I'm guessing because it's an older part of the country here in Massachusetts that the chances for war nickels increases...

Those are abnormally poor findings. You should try some more boxes and see. I usually average about 20 pre-1960s a box. I did have one box that had slightly more than 200, but that was a fluke. I usually average about one special keeper(war or buff) a box.

As for 2024 nickels, I have had no luck. I have done 80 or so nickel boxes this year, and not one. The nickels are actually selling for quite a bit, like $100 for a $2 unc. roll, so I hope to find a box and profit.

I have however, found more than my fair share of 2022-Ps, 2022-Ds, and 2023-Ps. Including probably at least 15 boxes of the latter.

I find that nickel rolls are fun to go thru...I haven't come across any uncirculated ones yet... I think if you go through enough rolls you'll get something interesting... like the one V nickel I found awhile back...

I think that nickels and dimes are my favorites. Nickels, at least have the largest volume of the coins that I go through.

I haven’t gotten a V nickel yet this year, but I hope to soon. :)

The V nickels are still out there...I saw another post awhile back where someone got one....I haven't had much success with dimes... I've gotten a mercury dime and that's about it....all of the silver dimes I've gotten have come from the coinstar machines...

I look forward to seeing your V nickel find soon. :)
