Not a "Book", its an "eBook", Title: "A Textbook of Assaying"
The Project Gutenberg eBook, A Textbook of Assaying:
For the Use of Those Connected with Mines.,
by Cornelius Beringer and John Jacob Beringer
Pretty much anything a person would want to know about assaying. Whether your a using a metal detector, treasure hunting on ground, or under water, or prospecting, or mining for ferrous or nonferrous materials, you need to know if what you found is worth something. I haven't had a chance to read this through yet, so I don't know if its left anything out, but its about 450 pages long, (all on one .html page).
Price: FREE
You can download it here:
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/18751/18751-h/18751-h.htm
(Its a long download, so if your on dialup be patient.)
You can search for thousands of other topics from the home page here:
http://www.gutenberg.org/
(I looked, but couldn't find anything specifically on metal detecting.)
