Im interested in a Conn. and Vt. colonial copper coins that I saw in a local antique shop. I know nothing about them other than they are both very readable. One with a date 1788 and Im not exactly sure what the other date is but its 1780s something. Graphics arn't bad. I would say fair maybe a bit better. These are priced at $60.00 each or buy both for $105.00. These look original to me but Im not a coin collector so I could easily be fooled. Did they make repros of these? Do these prices sound right. I figured that original coins like these might fetch a lot higher price.

Yes, replicas of these have been made over the years. Decent genuine examples are readily available in the price range you mentioned. Impossible to say if it is a good deal without knowing condition and variety. If a common variety and in lower grade the price may be a little high, but a rarer variety would be worth much more. If you can get some kind of guarantee as to authenticity, I would go for it. If you are really interested in Colonial coins I would recomend joining C4, The Colonial Coin Collectors Club, and subscribing to the Colonial Newsletter.

I bought one in a collection of coins from an estate and was jumping out of my skin thinking it was the real deal. Until under a certain light at a certain angle I saw the word copy, very hard to see with the naked eye so be careful. Here's mine.........Good luck what ever you decide. Oh I'd I'd be happy if it was worth $60.

Conn coins are much easier to find and buy than the Vermonts, but the advice of joining C4 is good or become knowledgeable by looking at over and over again the information available on the Notre Dame site and Coinfacts. Also go onto the auction websites and look up the coins, kind of nice way of knowing what a coin is really going for and not Redbook prices which are nothing but a very rough guide at best, especially for Colonials.
The less you use Redbook for primary information the better off, much more detailed information on the websites I mentioned when talking about early year coins.

Country Girl - OUCH :( Sorry on getting a copy, now go out and find a real one, we have found 4 Vermont coppers in Southern NJ, 3 at one site, including a 1785 variety Ryder 1 Immune Columbia Vermont Copper. :)

That's great advice Don. Yeah it was a little bit of a let down, but it fakes out everyone, the copy is so small no one notices it until i point it out. I like the avatar!
